Brazos Valley guide
Your Guide to Bryan–College Station
Welcome to the Brazos Valley. Whether you’re a future Texas A&M student, a family planning a move, or just curious, the question we hear most is the same: how close are Bryan and College Station, and how are they different?

The Twin Cities of the Brazos Valley
Bryan and College Station are practically one connected metro area. There’s no visible boundary between them, and it’s only a short drive from one city center to the other. Each city keeps its own personality and history.
- College Station is the newer, energetic city built around Texas A&M, known for its shopping and its international student body.
- Bryan is the older county seat, with a preserved downtown, boutiques, antiques and an arts scene.
Golden Homes Inc. builds in both cities and knows the neighborhoods on each side.
Savor the flavor: a few places to eat
The local food scene has grown well beyond college-town basics. A few places to start:
- Special occasions: The Republic Steakhouse in College Station, and Christopher’s World Grille in Bryan, set in a restored ranch house.
- Farm-to-table: Ronin Farm & Restaurant, known for seasonal menus and its Full Moon Dinners.
- Hidden gems: Fargo’s Pit BBQ, Tacos La Perla and Tacos La Perlita.
- Coffee: Sweet Eugene’s, Harvest Coffee Bar, and Haraz Coffee House, which brings Yemeni-style coffee culture to College Station.
Menus, hours and ownership change, so check each place before you go.
Thinking about building here?
The local housing market is active, and buyers have plenty of new-construction choices, from master-planned communities to established neighborhoods. If you’re leaning toward a custom home, these are good questions to ask any builder you’re considering:
- Who will actually be on the job site, and how often?
- How are changes handled, and how will you know what they do to the schedule and budget?
- What does the cost breakdown include, and what doesn’t it?
- How will they keep you informed as the home goes up?
- Can you see recent homes they’ve built?
At Golden Homes Inc., Mark Golden manages each project personally, with on-site oversight and open communication from planning through the final walk-through. See how custom home building works or browse homes we’ve built.
A community that connects
- Families: The area is served by two public school districts, Bryan ISD and College Station ISD.
- Getting around: Texas A&M and Brazos Transit buses have offered free rides to students and ID holders, and Texas A&M offers bike share and car share. Check current policies before you rely on them.
- Groceries: The major chains (H-E-B, Walmart, Kroger) are here, along with local stores such as The Farm Patch and BCS Asian Market.
Local favorites: businesses we love
- Fargo’s Pit BBQ — barbecue known for its brisket and ribs.
- Layne’s Chicken Fingers — an Aggie staple.
- Fuego Tortilla Grill — breakfast and specialty tacos.
- Curious Collections — a record store worth a browse.
- Hurricane Harry’s — a dance hall in the Northgate District.
- Haraz Coffee House — a newer addition to College Station’s coffee scene.
